Have you ever wondered how our greatest fraternal traditions evolved? In the past twenty-four years of our existence, we have passed on our beliefs and customs to new generations of Sigma Lambda Beta men. With in this time, much has and continues to change as new understandings manifest themselves in our old traditions. As time cultivates new ideas, a majority solidifies its practice and as a whole, a tradition is embraced. In this brotherhood, embracing a tradition comes with great responsibility, one that cannot be solely done for the sake of tradition.
To fully understand our nature, we must first explore the root and cause of our nature. In this process we can begin to uncover a social pattern that rediscovers the significance of our existence. Consider the geographic location, social conditions and ethnic make up of Sigma Lambda Beta from its beginnings. Talk to a brother, talk to an older brother and see if his experience as a Sigma Lambda Beta man on a college campus has changed. This notion can lead one to identify the similarities or differences we share and the reasons behind the social wealth of such an organization. As Joel Gutierrez, a founding brother and alumni of the University of California, Davis once shared,
Tradition is not about repetition but rather the knowledge that is passed down.
Here we must note that the basis for further cultivating our social organization lies with in the true understanding of our customs.
